On Friday, Nov. 30, HESNI will offer Chicago-area health care facility managers, plant and maintenance operators, construction contractors and project managers the opportunity to attend ASHE's seminar, Managing Infection Prevention During the Construction & Operation of Health Care Facilities. The full-day education program will be conducted at the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab, Auditoriums A & B on 10th floor, in downtown Chicago.

Our seminar presenters are: Steven Cutter, MBA, CHFM, HFDP, FASHE, Senior Consultant, MSL Healthcare Partners; Andrew Streifel, Hospital Environment Specialist | Department of Environmental Health and Safety, University of Minnesota; and Paula Wright, RN, BSN, CIC, Project Manager | Infection Control Unit, Massachusetts General Hospital.

Gain new insights into ways to proactively prevent infection in health care facilities during maintenance, renovation, and construction. This ASHE seminar is designed for individuals directly involved in the construction, renovation, and operation of health care facilities. It identifies the infection prevention issues that every contractor, facility manager, architect, and engineer must address on the job. While working in a health care environment, you need to understand your unique role and be prepared to implement processes to protect patients, staff, and visitors from hospital-acquired infections. Through lectures, case study reviews, problem-solving exercises, and group discussions, you will become a more valuable member of the health care construction team.

Learning Outcomes

  • Create and maintain work areas that support the facility's infection prevention protocols in order to reduce transmission of hospital-acquired infections.
  • Educate and train your team on infection prevention and best practices.
  • Explain the importance of conducting an infection control risk assessment (ICRA) for every project.
  • Explain the intent of the various compliance-, regulatory standard-, and guideline-setting agencies, including The Joint Commission, Facility Guidelines Institute, and Centers for Disease Control.

Vouchers for free parking in the hospital garage (valet parking not included) will be distributed at the seminar. Use the garage parking entrance on Ontario Street. We are grateful to our hosts, Shirley Ryan AbilityLab, and to our event sponsor:
