Presenter: Tony Ranallo, is a principal/partner in BOILERSOURCE and the COO. Tony has been in the industry as a manufacturer's representative since 1979 and with BOILERSOURCE since 1984. He is a past president of the Illinois Chapter of ASHRAE (2005-2006) and a member of ASPE, IDEA, AESP, and ABMA. Tony has presented multiple times for HESNI, ASPE, ASHRAE-IL, PHCC, SMACNA and numerous other organizations. He is a Trade Ally & presenter for Nicor, Peoples and North Shore Gas. Co-author of the patent: High Efficiency Closed-Loop Steam System Tony is also on multiple manufacture advisory groups. Topic: This presentation will discuss facts that will clear up some of the misinformation that has been disseminated by the media and other entities. Decarbonization is an important concept we must embrace to help with global warming. While electrification is the buzz word and concept that has garnered the most attention in recent years, the fact remains that we cannot transition to an all-electric society today or even in the near future. Once you have the facts you can evaluate your facilities energy strategy to best achieve your decarbonization goals in a way that is attainable, secure and budget friendly. |

Joint Commission Standards Receive Significant UpdatesJoint Commission (JC) announced on June 30, 2025, that it is making significant updates to its standards used by hospitals and critical access hospitals to guide compliance with JC accreditation requirements and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ (CMS) Conditions of Participation. Read the full announcement. The change, which consolidates and rewrites JC’s Life Safety and Environment of Care standards to improve alignment with the Conditions of Participation, will require careful review by health care facilities managers working to remain compliant with JC accreditation requirements. The update will be going into effect January 1, 2026. ASHE is committed to supporting health care facilities professionals as they implement this change and is updating several resources and education courses to help the field understand and reference the updated JC standards. Read the announcement for a summary of the JC standard modifications, the impact on the field, and what ASHE tools and resources are available to help facilities professionals through this change. |

Save the date for the 33rd Annual Chicago River Day - May 10, 2025Every year since 1992, Friends of the Chicago River partners with community leaders, municipalities, and landowners to host our largest volunteer stewardship day of the year, Chicago River Day. Volunteers build community and improve our rivers and public spaces by cleaning up harmful litter, mulching trails, and removing invasive plants. At this watershed-wide cleanup, thousands of community members, families, and companies work in and along the 156-mile Chicago-Calumet River system at over 75 locations throughout the city and suburbs. While there is much to celebrate about the river’s renaissance over the past 40 years, litter continues to be a persistent problem, especially in the form of plastics from food and product packaging. Chicago River Day is the flagship event for Friends’ Litter Free Chicago-Calumet River initiative that combats this plastic pollution problem. The initiative is dedicated to reducing and eliminating litter in and along our river system through public policy and on the ground action. |

As a HESNI member, Tim values the ability to network with industry peers and the educational opportunities provided. Tim explains that while it is easy to feel isolated and overwhelmed when faced with daily challenges and pressures that are common in healthcare engineering, with HESNI you are not alone. Tim says being an active HESNI member provides an avenue to give back and pave the way for the next generation of facilities managers. Tim advocates that any non-members get involved as soon as they can - you'll regret not getting involved in an organization like HESNI early on! Tim shares that working in healthcare provides a deep sense of personal satisfaction and purpose knowing what you do has meaningful impact on the comfort and care of the patients that are served at your facility. The field offers numerous opportunities to solve complex problems and address unique challenges, keeping the work dynamic and engaging. Tim values the ability to connect with and learn from a diverse range of individuals with varying levels of education, interests, and experiences. Outside of work, Tim is a member of several flying clubs. More recently, he has ventured into powered parachutes and gyrocopters, which offer a unique, open-air flying experience that’s hard to match with fixed-wing airplanes. When the weather isn’t suitable for flying, Tim enjoys a motorcycle ride and spending time with his two Australian Shepherd pups. Congratulations Tim, we appreciate members like you that keep our organization strong! |
